Sitting down with your bank can often be the most productive way of doing this. Explain your business, emphasize how long you've been a customer (if it's been a long time), and state that you are interested in negotiating for lower fees. This can often produce results!
Shop around. I found out, Ebay processing fees is the lowest in the market.
There is only one simple answer to this question. Do business with a merchant provider who is willing to help grow your business. I do that for my merchants and they love me for it.

Have you ever wondered why every 3 to 5 years, you can call on a merchant service provider and they can save you money? Have you ever wondered how to read your credit card statement? Has it ever occurred to you that this is the only unregulated business in the financial industry? Those are just a few questions of many that can be asked. As far as negotiation, remember that Interchange can not be negotiated. This is set pricing structure that is regulated by Visa and MasterCard. Negotiation would only be on actual profit margin that should be disclosed by that merchant provider. Example
The question is which country? U.S. or Canada? There are lots of ways to negoatiate deals and to determine a selection process. Rates are sometimes difficult to understand so being able to ask questions regarding annual fees, PCI compliance expense, per transaction costs, interchange plus vs. a qualified/mid qualified/non qualified bucketing structure, as well as all the "event based fees" all play a influence on rates and your ultimate cost. Based rule of thumb is being armed with facts and understanding. Check out Company.com's articles environment for information on PCI and card processing in general and the marketplace for nationally promoted providers and local providers. Canada has far fewer players due to the limited banking entity environment. The U.S. has lots of non-bank players to select from. Check references where ever you are located. Always get a quoted estimate regarding total costs to rely upon related to your processing history. Best, Bill W. Company.com CEO
Hi Adam, All merchants have negotiation power. Although there are various factors that determine price there are some things that small business owners can do to negotiate better pricing. The main thing they can do is respond quickly. A sentence such as "If I get the application back to you in 2 hours will you lower X? or remove X?" Will go a long way. Also another great way to negotiate is by offering referrals to the merchant provider. I am interested in becoming your preferred merchant service provider in the USA. Please let me know what it takes. Thank you Jason
There is no way to answer that question unless i know more about your business, your monthy volume of processing, your avg ticket sale..............actually reviewing your statement. There any many equations that need to be look at in order to answer the question. What deal the MSP has with its processor based on volume can help the merchants rates as well
