When do you have to pay for photos?

I am putting my presentations out on the web to help my business. I've copied some photos from the web and have purchased some for $1. I know if I put the photo on a postcard and mail 5000 copies I have to pay more. Should I have to pay more if I buy a photo for $1 and then put it up in a presentation that's viewed by 5000 people?
